Nothing says wild blast more than a weekend getaway with the ISC family. On December 20th, 2019 we embarked on our first ever camping trip that took place at Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden. The event lasted for three days and around 16 people were able to make it. Upon arriving at the campsite, everyone began to unload and prop up their tents, which in itself proved to be quite a challenge, keeping us occupied for several hours.
The first night consisted of settling in, grilling the food (steak, kalbi ribs, and rice), as well as meeting some of the new faces at the campsite. Later we had some other activities like making s’mores, going around telling scary stories, and playing games. Unfortunately, there was also some heavy on-and-off rain that happened to flood some tents the following morning.
The second day started off with cooking and eating breakfast. Then a refreshing hike around the garden, followed by catch and release fishing, and taste-testing curry that everyone had a hand in making. The day was very easy going and people were free to roam around the area enjoying the peaceful scenery. The late night festivities continued, except this time around, there was hot ramen to help combat the chilliness.
What made this trip most memorable were the stories shared around the campfire, playing games long into the night, and trying new things. Just having a great time with good people and cooking outdoors was the perfect way to wind down after a long and stressful semester. This is only the beginning of a tradition we hope to keep within our club so that we can have fun and grow closer together.
