Hawaii Tokai International College’s auditorium was filled with the savory scent of crisp takoyaki, an esteemed Japanese cuisine. Takoyaki (たこ焼き) is a ball-shaped appetizer typically filled with diced octopus and drizzled with tenkasu, pickled ginger, and green onion though the filling may be substituted with other meats. The food was popularized by street food vendors in Japan and has since been spread to other cultures.

More information on the food and its history can be found here:

The Takoyaki Party was coordinated by ISC’s Japanese committee as a way for Tokai students and local students to bond, interact, and learn more about the traditions behind making the food. The event consisted of meal preparations, cooking (and tasting), introductions and games among students. After hearing what many people had to say, it can be said that we all had a great time and appreciate being able to try new experiences.

A big thanks to the Japanese Committee and those who worked hard with both setting up and breaking down after the event. We look forward to more opportunities to bond over delicious food!
