In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the University of Hawaii— West O’ahu held their annual Breast Cancer awareness festivities in the campus courtyard on October 3rd, 2019. The event consisted of UHWO’s clubs and organizations promoting support for the cause through educational activities that students could participate in. The International Student Club prepared a pink mini photo-booth along with a spread of props and Breast Cancer Awareness signs which people could stamp their fingerprint and sign their name on, or leave a message to show their support. We even had the opportunity to strike up a few conversations with people who stopped by our table and shared with us personal stories about their loved ones who had become breast cancer survivors.
It is always important to be mindful that breast cancer is a disease that can affect anyone and educating people on early prevention makes a huge difference. It is always a great experience to participate as a club in these events because it allows us to learn other people’s stories and become a part of something bigger that will positively strengthen our community.
